The Challenge
Walmart needed hands-on local media support across the Pacific Northwest, Idaho, and Wyoming, from store remodels and grand openings to community announcements and reporter inquiries.
The challenge was to make large-scale corporate news feel relevant at the local level. Finding stories, partnerships, and moments that could earn attention in individual communities.
The Strategy
Our role was to serve as Walmart’s local media team across Oregon, Washington, Idaho and Wyoming.
That meant working closely with corporate communications, store managers and local stakeholders to identify timely media opportunities, shape announcements and connect Walmart’s broader priorities to stories that mattered in each market.
Beyond planned store remodels and openings, we also looked for creative, community-focused opportunities that could generate organic media interest.
My Contribution
I supported the account for several years before stepping into the day-to-day account lead role during my final eight months on the business.
Across roughly three years, I managed media outreach, reporter inquiries, store-level coordination and on-site events throughout the region. I worked directly with Walmart corporate, store managers and community partners to identify stories, develop media angles and support announcements from planning through execution.
As account lead, I became the primary point of contact for day-to-day activity, overseeing priorities, timelines and local media strategy across multiple markets
The Work
Store Remodels + ReGrand Openings

Supported remodels and grand openings across the region through targeted media outreach, on-site coordination and press events.
I regularly traveled to Walmart locations to work with store leadership, prepare for media attendance and help manage press conferences and opening-day activities.
Local Media Relations

Developed and pitched local story angles, handled reporter inquiries and served as a regional media resource for Walmart across Oregon, Washington, Idaho and Wyoming.
The work ranged from planned corporate announcements to fast-moving opportunities that required local knowledge and quick coordination.
Open Call + Small Business Public Relations

Supported Walmart’s Open Call program by working directly with participating small businesses in my markets to identify local media opportunities and develop story angles around their Walmart partnership. I consulted with business owners on positioning, coordinated with Walmart’s corporate team, and led outreach designed to turn a national supplier program into relevant local stories.
Open Call is Walmart's sourcing program allowing entrepreneurs to pitch to get their products on Walmart shelves.
